Getting ready to start putting out my patterns for sale. Just a bit more tweaking and testing then they will be available to the public.
I've been asked about storage in my studio, so I thought I would share what I use and maybe give some ideas for different sized spaces. I store the quilts that customers bring me in some Ikea Stuva drawers. These drawers fit perfectly under my longarm table or can be placed anywhere as they are a great size, low cost and very sturdy. We moved this past summer from Ohio to Florida with not a speck of damage!
This photo is an Ikea Alex 9 Drawer system. Once again, very sturdy, low cost. I use this to store my longarm and specialty threads. You want to store your thread out of the sunlight so that it doesn't fade or dry out to much. My cabinet is full of thread, so it can hold 200+ large spools of longarm thread. Yes, I need another of these... as with fabric, you just can't ever have enough!
That would be a great storage idea for thread. I have mine in a closet, but the light is bad and I have to pull them out to see them clearly. Great idea!

ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to know which Ikea items work well for you. I am currently building a studio and have a trip planned to Ikea (200 miles away!) for furniture upon completion. Also, I would love to hear where you got your tall chair for long arming and more about your DIY batting roll storage table. Thanks!

DeleteI actually got this chair with a mat (which I am not using) from Gammill when I purchased my machine. It is called a "drafting chair". I bet you could find one on Google. I love it because it has taller adjustments. I use it all the time. I will post a photo of my batting roll table for you shortly. I made it myself with 2 x 4's and metal pipes. Everything you can get at Lowe's or Home Depot. :)
